A repair mat isn't a desk cover — it's your memory in the middle of a teardown. The surface is divided into moulded zones: a screw board numbered 1 to 124, areas marked magnetic that hold small metal parts where you put them, open Parts trays for the larger pieces, and a tool-supplies rail for whatever is in your hand. Two Parts box trays — A and C — lift out of the mat, so you can move parts aside without scattering them across the bench.
The areas marked magnetic hold screws and brackets; the Parts trays beside them are open wells for the larger pieces.
The screw board: 124 numbered wells, so every screw sits somewhere you can identify on reassembly.

A grid of 124 small wells, each with its number moulded beside it. Take a screw out, drop it in a well, note where it came from. On reassembly every screw goes back to its own hole — which is the difference between a phone that closes properly and a screw that is one millimetre too long going somewhere it shouldn't.
The areas marked magnetic hold small metal parts in place — screws, brackets, EMI shields. Parts trays are open wells with no magnet, for larger or non-magnetic pieces: the frame, the battery, the display, flex cables.
